British Solar Renewables (BSR) are bringing forward a proposal for a new development on land to the west of Barnsdale Road, just south of Kippax. The proposal is for an 80 MW Battery Energy Storage Site (BESS) and will help strengthen the local grid infrastructure by storing and regulating energy.
Updates
Thank you to all who attended our consultation event on Tuesday 5th November 2024 at Kippax Band Social Club, and our webinar on Monday 18th November. The webinar provided a short presentation from the project team on the proposals, followed by a Q&A session. The information presented at the webinar was the same as the consultation event boards, which may be found available to download here.
The webinar may be viewed on our ‘Have Your Say’ page.
We have extended our consultation period until Friday 29th November, to allow more time for residents to submit feedback about our proposals.
Why do we need batteries?
Given the current cost of living crisis, which includes soaring energy prices and concerns around energy security, providing locally sourced clean, green, and reliable energy production is more vital than ever. To meet this target and to address the climate emergency, the shift away from polluting fossil fuel sources towards green energy production and storage options, such as BESS developments, are needed urgently.
This battery technology is designed to fill gaps in the country’s energy supply, so that we can ensure a constant, steady supply of power to homes across the UK. The presence of these batteries drastically improves the efficiency of the UK grid.
BSR is committed to speaking with the community at the earliest possible opportunity, to allow us to fully consider the feedback received from those that know the area best. Further information on how you can get involved in our consultation can be viewed on the Public Consultation and Contact Us pages of this website.
